What Recall Check stores
- The things you tell it you own: the brand, what it is, and the model number and year if you give them.
- Which recalls it has already told you about, and which you have said you dealt with.
- If you link an account: your email address and a salted hash of your password. The password itself is never stored.
What it does not store
- Recordings or transcripts of what you say. Recall Check receives only the details the assistant passes to it.
- Your name, address, location, contacts or payment details.
How it is used
Your list is used for one purpose: to compare it with public recall notices and tell you about matches. It is not sold, shared or used for advertising.
When you add a vehicle, its make, model and year are sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public recall service to look up its recalls. Nothing that identifies you is sent with that request. Products, food and medicine are checked against a copy of the public recall data held by Recall Check, so nothing leaves the service.
Removing your data
Say "stop watching" followed by the item to remove it from your list. To delete an account and everything stored with it, open an issue at github.com/G-ojies/recall-check or write to the address on that page.
The demonstration on this site
The simulator on this site keeps a list for each browser, identified by a random code held in that browser. Choosing "Start over with an empty list" abandons it. The demonstration runs on free hosting and its data may be cleared at any time.
